Favorite Children's Book
My favorite childhood book is Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae. This book is about a giraffe who gets teased because when the other jungle animals get together to dance, he is very out-of-sync. But when the giraffe goes off on his own, and listens to the sounds of nature, he starts to dance, and the other animals see he has talent. I think I like this book because it teaches kids that it is ok to be different, and everyone has their own music they dance to. The academic teacher side of me likes it because it has alliteration, rhyming, and a kind story to teach to children.

Caroline, I cannot wait to read this book. I've never heard of it, and the plot sounds just perfect! The children will certainly relate to music and dancing, so it seems like a great addition. I love learning and sharing new books... and I am very involved with phonological awareness, so the word "alliteration" and "rhyming" called out to be. I will be at the library tomorrow to check out this book. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCaroline, I haven't read the book, but the summary made me think of my son. He is 13 and for a long time he had no rhythm. He use to go into his room and practice with the door closed. Now he can "Boogie" with the best of them. If he saw that word he would say, "Nobody says boogie anymore ma." He is very diverse and likes all types of music. I am proud of him because he does his best at whatever he choses.
ReplyDeleteHey Caroline
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds very interesting,I plan on reading it this week!!!! I have never heard of it, but the message is a good one for young children. It is very important to teach our children that it is ok to be differnt! We should accept/embrace it, and children should not have to be picked on for it!
